01Install

Install from FreeCAD’s Addon Manager

Recommended

FreeCAD keeps Oscar up to date for you.

  1. Open Edit → Preferences → Addon Manager

On macOS, Preferences is under the FreeCAD menu.

  2. Add Oscar’s repository under Custom repositories

Add this address with the branch main, then click OK.

  3. Open Tools → Addon manager, find Oscar and click Install

  4. Restart FreeCAD

Install from a release ZIP instead

For computers where the Addon Manager can’t reach GitHub, or to pin a version.

  1. Download the latest release and unzip it

  2. Rename the folder to Oscar

It must contain package.xml and InitGui.py directly, not inside another folder.

  3. Move the Oscar folder into FreeCAD’s Mod folder

Create the Mod folder if it doesn’t exist yet.

    macOS

In Finder, press ⇧⌘G and paste the path.

    Windows

Paste the path into File Explorer’s address bar.

    Linux

.local is hidden: press Ctrl+H in the file manager to show it.

Not sure where it is? In FreeCAD’s Python console, run FreeCAD.getUserAppDataDir(): the Mod folder goes inside the folder it prints.

  4. Restart FreeCAD

02Sign in

Sign in from Oscar and start building

  1. Open the Oscar workbench

Choose Oscar in the workbench list on FreeCAD’s toolbar, or press Ctrl+Shift+O. The Oscar panel opens on the right.

  2. Click ⚙ in the panel, then Sign in with OriginShape

Your browser opens and asks you to allow Oscar for FreeCAD on this computer. Allow it, then go back to FreeCAD: you’re signed in.

  3. Describe your first part

For example: “An 80 mm flange, 8 mm thick, with six M6 bolt holes on a 60 mm circle.” Oscar plans it, builds it step by step and checks the result.

Browser can’t reach FreeCAD?

On a remote desktop, a virtual machine or behind a strict firewall, choose Sign in with a code. Oscar shows a code such as BCDF-GHJK: enter it on the device sign-in page from any computer or phone.

On the waitlist?

You can sign in from Oscar straight away. It starts building once your account is approved, and shows a waitlist card until then. About the waitlist
